Yesterday was a remarkable day. With Chris Gill at Denbigh Gliding as P1 and me as P2, we broke a UK gliding record — fastest 100km FAI triangle. We completed it at 179 km/h. The previous UK record was 152 km/h.
No engine. No fuel. Just the air.
We climbed to around 11,000 feet using wave lift — pure energy from the atmosphere — and then executed the task with precision. But what really struck me wasn't the record. It was how we did it.
It took careful planning, absolute clarity of intent, constant awareness of changing conditions, fast decision-making, trust and teamwork, and the discipline to adapt moment by moment. Because the reality is, you don't control the air. You work with it.
At times, everything aligns and you move incredibly fast. At other times, you have to adjust quickly or risk losing everything you've built.
And that's exactly what I see every day working with businesses and AI.
AI isn't the engine. It's the lift. On its own, it does nothing. But in the hands of a business with clear intent, good structure, and the ability to respond and adapt, it becomes incredibly powerful.
The businesses we're working with at MadeByAI aren't just "using AI". They're planning better, acting with more clarity, responding faster to change, and building new capability. Ultimately moving quicker than they thought possible.
Just like the glider, the performance isn't magic. It's what happens when preparation, environment, and execution come together.
